Best April Fool's Day Pranks
April 1 is a day for harmless pranks and silliness. It was a personal favorite of mine when I was a kid, but that could be because I had a younger brother who was so fun to prank. I would spend all morning setting up little traps for him to encounter. There were partially opened doors with cups of water precariously perched on the top of the door to spill on him, markers with the tops all switched so they looked like different colors than they were, switching white vinegar for water in the fridge. If you’re starting to feel bad for him, don’t worry – he certainly got me back plenty of times. Not my best April Fool's Day pranks, but I've found some favorites growing up. Hit the jump to start the mayhem!
Wrapping Paper
What you'll need: a lot of wrapping paper and tape
How you'll do it: time will be needed most on this one, and the EASY WAY to prank your target with this one is to wrap all of their things before they arrive to work or after they leave for the day. It's even funnier if you wrap things that aren't even inside - for instance, wrapping their favorite mug, but it's actually just nothing wrapped in the shape of their mug. This is the ADVANCED WAY to execute this prank, most commonly seen on "The Office" here:
Sticky Note Hell
What you'll need: many pads of sticky notes and even more time
How you'll do it: this one is usually best executed before or after the work day simply because of the time it takes. Remove notes from the pad and begin decorating the target's office. Change up the colors and get creative! Lastly, they are notes, so feel free to write fake lovey-dovey things on them or adult jokes.
Fake Update
What you'll need: access to target's computer
How you'll do it: when your target is away, visit fakeupdate.net and select an O.S. - for highest confusion, use a Windows update for an Apple, and an Apple update for a Windows. Maximize the screen. Leave the scene of the prank.
Packed in Peanuts
What you'll need: packing peanuts
How to do it: when the target is away, fill every open spot with the foam peanuts: drawers, cabinets, slide out bins/baskets, etc. If you empty out a space, take a picture or write down what goes where so that you can return things back after the prank.
Things in Jell-O
What you'll need: gelatin dessert (Jell-O), personal belongings of your target
How to do it: begin taking personal belongings from your target. Smaller ones will likely go unnoticed and easier to place in the gelatin. Follow instructions to create the gelatin dessert, do not refrigerate - that will come in the next steps. Place about half of the gelatin dessert mix into a new container along with one or more of their belongings / you can also place the belongings in a new container and then pour the entire mix. Now refrigerate everything and check on it in about 10 hours. Place these gelled things back where your target would normally find them. Consider your target pranked.
April Fool's Day Origin and History
The origins of April Fool’s Day are a little hazy, but one of my favorite theories is that it dated back to the 16th century when the world went from the Julian Calendar (which started the year on April 1st with the spring equinox) to the Gregorian Calendar (which starts the year on January 1st). So, all those people who forgot that the year changed in January were called April Fools.
Regardless of how it started, April Fool’s Day is such a fun time to pretend like you’re a kid again and enjoy the ridiculousness of the day. You certainly wouldn’t be the only one. All through history, people have delighted in pranks. Television has teased people for decades with things like spaghetti trees that had people calling in to see how they could get one and Smell-O Vision that people swore actually worked. But what does work, are the Scent Machines from Aroma Retail that can scent your cinema room or a movie theater for your multi-sensory experience when watching your movies or shows.
This April Fool’s day, channel your inner child and enjoy the fun of playing a prank, being full-on goofy. Like a kid in a candy store. Or…you can bring the sweets to you with our Candy Shop Fragrance! It’s such a fabulous way to celebrate being playful with the cheerful notes of citrus and raspberry reminiscent of large lollipop spirals of bright colors, or a kaleidoscope of jellybeans crowded in glass jars. If you love pixie sugar, cotton candy and sour straws, you’ll love this fabulous new scent – on April Fool’s Day or any day! And that is no prank.
