What is the Chinese Zodiac?
The Jade Emperor wanted guards for his palace and stated that the first 12 animals to arrive at the gate would earn their place at his side. This became known as the Race to the Heavenly Gate or also the Heavenly Gate Race. Each animal is celebrated for one lunar year. These lunar years vary, although typically ending and beginning in January or February, respectively.
