Labor Day at the Seashore - For the wealthy in the Victorian era, Labor Day marked the last day to wear white. This tradition came about due to the lighter-colored clothes people wore when on summer vacation to beat the heat. Wearing white after Labor Day implied one was still on vacation long after returning home, and in a world of staunch rules, that simply wasn’t done.
